The 'Woodland Walk' at Newark College

During the Summer of 2008 Appleyard Smith Morgan Limited undertook the design and development of an acre and a half of waste ground to the rear of Newark College town campus, which became known as the 'Woodland Walk' project.

As part of the massive refurbishment process at the college, this previously overgrown area was transformed into a spectacular space for students, staff, local residents and wildlife to enjoy and benefit from. The entire project came in just under budget at £70,000.

Over a 8 weeks period Appleyard Smith Morgan Limited turned this overgrown section of the grounds into an attractive and very useful space. The stunning design of the garden with a wheelchair friendly 'resin bound' path, safe havens for wildlife, a mountain stream and seating areas amongst the flora and fauna means that students, staff and the local residents can make the most of this space for relaxing and learning.

Local lifelong resident and college neighbour, Roma Parlby was the guest of honour at the garden party. She said: “It has been fantastic to see new life develop in this garden again. I can remember when the land was individual gardens to the neighbouring houses until it was given away to grow vegetables in the war effort. At last we can get pleasure from it again. I look forward to seeing the garden grow and take shape over the coming months and years.”
